mix tape of sorts
Nov. 21st, 2008 03:05 pmI was really excited when I saw the words "indie-fied covers of your favorite pop songs" this morning over here. One and a half listen-throughs later...I remembered why sometimes indie rock is relentlessly mocked. But there are still enough good tracks to make it worth a listen. Which you can do below, because technology is awesome.
Piano-rock band Jukebox the Ghost does "It's a Beautiful Life"! Rufus Wainwright-esque Max Vernon does "I Kissed a Girl"! Excellent covers of "Tainted Love" and "Self Control" and "If You Leave" maintain their '80s spirit. The only one I had to skip over completely was "We Didn't Start The Fire," because some songs are too firmly stuck in their original versions. (Also don't really care for the plaintive "I'm Not Okay." It lacks...drive, or something.)
