Staring Through the Demons, [livejournal.com profile] bexless's sequel to her I Have Been All Things Unholy--which is epic in its own right--is up. And amazing. I'm a little blown away right now, having just read Part II in its entirety in one sitting, and just...fuck.

[livejournal.com profile] newredshoes, it's like when I read your Athens fic all in one go. Only a little bit moreso, because the ending is more of a beginning and there's still more to come. Jesus Christmas. I need to go lie down.

...okay, not really because I'm already reclining in bed with the laptop. But I'm tapped out for the night, I can't go read [livejournal.com profile] bookishy's vampire book now (even though it is AWESOME) because I am too drained. Angsted out.

Damn.

I made a really excellent doing-homework mix. It's so excellent that it actually distracts me from doing said homework. Fantastic.

This is the Song of the Moment in our house, but it is not on my homework mix. This should be remedied.

I came home to nap after lunch because I figured I would fall asleep in the library and not be productive. The 2 hour nap was not really productive, either.

My finals are actually not that bad -- just two 10-15 page papers, one of which has a thorough outline with comments, the other which is being not written as we speak. However, because I'm leaving on Monday, they will be a pain in the ass to finish.

I'm still too pleased about finishing Ulysses to actually start the Joyce outline. The last chapter is really, really good, y'all. I've written an awful lot in my life about Tom Stoppard's Travesties, and I'm afraid I'm ready to be done with it for the moment...so the grand plan of tying both papers to my thesis is kind of failing.

There is a message in 6-foot-tall letters written in the snow outside my house: "Hey Westover, We're Single," with a giant arrow pointing to the house. We're so classy. (Westover is the nearby military base, which frequently sends low-flying planes over campus.)

The internet is endlessly fascinating, part #876: The Year in Media Corrections.

[livejournal.com profile] newredshoes is writing devastating Cedric Diggory fic. And adorable Viktor Krum fic. And I can't stop reading.

[livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe's way-cool final paper is on meta commentary in fandom. She's looking for links to essays. Related: [livejournal.com profile] metablog is also endlessly fascinating.

Miracle of miracles, I've stayed off of The Facebook. Today.

All six housemates were home for dinner, and we spent two hours talking about absolutely nothing because nobody wanted to work.

I changed my layout colors. Again.

*sigh*

King Kong: Caught the trailer whilst channel surfing this evening -- absolutely perfect timing, just as the Universal logo came up. I had forgotten almost everything I ever knew about this movie; I remembered there would be ActionStar!Adrien Brody, and super-director PJ, of course, but SeriousActor!Jack Black, MovieStar!Naomi Watts, and secret underage boyfriend #2 Jamie Bell were a pleasant surprise. Will it be good? Eh -- too soon to tell, really. Will it look totally awesome? Hell yes. :)

Batman: Still haven't seen it. We'll see if I can hold out until the family returns and Cousin Mick and Uncle Jeff will want to go see it...but I'm not sure I can resist the power of the Bale for that long. I'm surprised I've made it this far.

Harry Potter: In the spirit of getting ready for the next one, I decided it was time to go back and reread Order of the Phoenix. I keep falling asleep. However, it's interesting and worthwhile, because I keep coming across things (Arabella Figg, the Black family tree, the layout of the Ministry, Tonks) that are good to remember, and other things (like Sirius's entire characterization, and Bill Weasley) that have been totally skewed by fanfic. I feel like it's a bad thing when you can't keep fanon/canon straight any more -- I may have to go off fic until this thing comes out to avoid confusion.

Some of these brain cells should probably be dedicated to more useful things )

Star Wars: I'm still utterly entranced by the original trilogy, as evidenced by my inability to turn away from the A&E "making of" special tonight. All the behind-the-scenes stuff is just SO COOL! Even though I'd heard most of the stories before (Han Solo was supposed to die, but George shot it down; the Jedi title change), the footage from the sets was awesome. The backstage aspects are all so fascinating, and I really do think that my interest in filmmaking can be traced back to these movies. Plus, the AFI Silver is showing the trilogy on the big screen during the first two weeks of July...and I really want to see them again. Just because. Dammit. I've been back in, haven't I?

NEW FANDOM ALERT: I read Good Omens last week, and I think I want more. [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes, [livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe, as the resident Gaiman fangirls on my flist, I'm counting on you two for recs. I'll read whatever you tell me to pick up next -- especially if I can find it at the local used bookstore (translation: options, s'il vous plait). Cheers.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go read. More.

Because I'm tired of my all-time favorite chick-with-a-gun being neglected in fic: As Cool As I Am by [livejournal.com profile] rhipowered.

I'm a little frightened, y'all. This makes me want to start writing fic. (Although if there's any fandom I know enough about to write it, it'd have to be the SW-verse. *eyes C-3PO-shaped mouse*)

Ben & Jerry's One Sweet Whirled may just be the best ice cream ever created. Damn.

Also...new Shoebox!! *rejoices*

Puttering through entries in the Day After Tomorrow fic challenge tonight, one that was particularly good: "Goodnight, Moon" by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63. Technically, it's a Joan of Arcadia fanfic--but it's also a really moving piece of writing that doesn't overly rely on the show for characterization. Depressing as all hell, but wow.

Pretend I'm incomprehensible due to the late hour rather than this fic, mmmkay?
