Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] bookishy's recent post, I spent my morning at work brainstorming about my top 3 guilty pleasures movies. Seriously, y'all: I want to run out and buy all of these right now, and then spend the day marathoning them.

The "Twelve Days" meme!

On the twelfth day of Christmas, e_clare sent to me...
Twelve vikings drumming
Eleven buckeyes piping
Ten documentaries a-leaping
Nine bookstores dancing
Eight musicals a-man-walling
Seven pre-raphaelites a-reading
Six fjords editing
Five se-e-e-ending letters
Four star wars
Three ben folds
Two fairy tales
...and a travel in an ugly betty.

Tomorrow I'm going into New York for a long-delayed informational interview, for which I have done zero research and written zero questions. Brilliant. I also just had to send an email begging to push our meeting back half an hour, because I am a dumbass who schedules things too tightly and leaves no time for getting from meeting A to meeting B.

Also -- not entirely my fault -- I thought meeting A was an hour earlier than it actually is, because when someone says "Let's meet at lunch" I assume they mean 12, not 1pm. Whoops.

So of course, I spent the past 20 minutes doing a meme. Because I have priorities in life.

The oldie-but-goodie: Soundtrack of My Life: The Movie Meme
Review the rules:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

No danger of coolness here. Good laughs, though. )

Reply to this entry with your name and post these instructions in your own journal. I will go poke around your list of interests on your profile and ask you one question about one of them. You wax rhapsodic on the subject of your interest for the edification of all and we'll learn something keen about you.

Or in simple terms:

Reply to this meme, I'll pick one of your interests, and you tell me a whole bunch of stuff about it and we all learn a bit more.

Aside: Anybody want to read a cover letter in the next day or so? It'd be muchly appreciated, and I can guarantee a cool Washington postcard for your trouble. :)

I'm sort of writing a paper about the Beatles and Bob Dylan...but I'm on a break, and checking PostSecret. Today kind of sucked, but this is my new favorite postcard, and things look a little brighter.

Hope for humanity and all, y'know. Amazing how it changes your outlook.

January: Happy New Year -- it's a little late, but there it is.
February: 1. DOOR TO MY ROOM @ 2 AM: *click* ME (OUTSIDE THE DOOR @ 2 AM): Wait, where are my keys...?
March: Curses! I missed my bus by two minutes, max.
April: For once, I'm being serious: the past two days of reading have been utterly wonderful and downright exciting.
May: apparently i can fall asleep sitting up, continue typing, and have it actually make some sense.
June: Seeing as even [livejournal.com profile] banannagoats has rejoined the world of the living LJ, I suppose it's time for an update.
July: What I did on my lunch break: I read the NYTimes.
August: I'm home, and it's great.
September: Happy convocation day, MoHos and Smithies!
October: Soooo missing England right now.
November: Even though I'm starting this project far too late at night (it's okay! it's not due 'til Thursday!), I am so, so excited: I get to start my thesis outline.
December: Bloody hell, how's it December?

In other news, our Suzuki demonstration/performance went really, really well. Thanks to everybody who came! But of course, the most exciting thing is that we don't have class tomorrow. :D (But we do have it Friday. Boo.) This means that I have 7 classes left this semester...and two papers...and I'm leaving for OH on the 19th, so I should get on those. Hmm.

Soooo missing England right now. Need to toast a crumpet, spread clotted cream on a scone, and drink a gin and tonic.

Perhaps not all at once, though. That could be bad.

1. Grab the nearest book. Don't search for something cool. Grab what's actually closest to you.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your own journal along with these instructions.

"Well, Mikhailo Alexandrych, might I have the honor of taking you to the high road in my new troika?"

From the last page of A Month in the Country, by Ivan Turgenev. The first two books I picked up were Stoppard plays, well short of 123 pages. I found the Turgenev at the Takoma Book Exchange, and snatched it up with the hope that it would supplement my reading of the Coast of Utopia. I did successfully finish Shipwreck, but I'm afraid that I didn't really get it -- I agree, [livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe, that it really needs the rest of the trilogy. And maybe the Turgenev will prove illuminating, if I can get through it.

Yeah. Not much to say really, except OMG KRISTY'S COMING TOMORROW!!!1

Yay. Even though I just saw my partner-in-crime at spring break, I'm thrilled that I get to see her again before the summer, or (heaven forfend) sometime in August.

Of course, this means I ought to be doing homework now, so that I'll be free this weekend. Hey, man -- I did my part: I watched M*A*S*H for my history paper. There's always more to be done, but it'll happen eventually, right? If I get up early and work at the Association for three hours, I could be finished before noon, which gives me an hour and some for studiousness.

Turns out this is rather dull. Sorry, team.

Look! Shiny icon!

This weekend is a total bust, academically; socially, I'd give it 50% (see subject).

I did get to see a lot of plays, which was fun. Arcadia at Smith was pretty good -- not fantastic, as there were some major problems, but good overall -- and it was great to finally see something in the Valley not at UMass. Incidentally, the UMass production of Angels in America: Part One? Not so good. Draggy pace, weak ensemble, bad crowd energy Thursday night...'tis a pity.

EDIT: *pokes LJ* Can anyone explain why the timestamp on my comments is approximately four hours ahead of "real time"? Now that I've noticed it, that's going to drive me insane.

I was just planning to bitch about the musical, but it really doesn't matter, because today was really great.

I feel sad, because Sarah and Britney are complete bitches. They told everyone I have an STD, just because I slept with both of their boyfriends on Saturday night.

Last night I had to finish my term paper on the history of pre-communist Russian society. I focussed on the needs of women. I think it's ok, but if I don't pass this I'll lose my scholarship.

Today, I got a digital camera! Yes! Here's ten thousand photographs of my cat.

You should all do this quiz! It's amazingly accurate. You just put in your name and birthday, and it will tell you next week's lottery numbers.

That's enough for now. But I'll leave you with this thought - sharing your life with strangers on the internet is the cheapest form of therapy available. Leave a comment and tell me I'm beautiful.

*shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] perseph12*

In other news, I just have to share how much I love my musicals class. Because it seriously rocks. This week is devoted entirely to Fred Astaire, and I'm so embarrassingly pumped--which is weird, considering that I'd never actually seen an entire Fred Astaire movie until last semester. (Excepting Holiday Inn, which I left after the Presidents' Day blackface number. *shudders*) At this rate, my Fred-love could come to rival banannagoats' Gene-love. And that is truly frightening.

I IM'd jfray the Kerry-as-Nick photo today. Her mom walked past, and thought it was actually a picture of ex-boyfriend Nick. This is good, as it means I'm not entirely crazy, although it doesn't explain that guy I saw at UMass last week who looked like Ian Dodge. *shrugs*
