Because this is what I do instead. I wanted to go to bed by now, but I have to stay up and finish some of my reading. I did nothing with my night, except successfully resist re-watching Angels in America.

Not much of an accomplishment, considering that I read Oscar recaps instead. But I only have Global Cinema tomorrow! This could be considered homework, right? It's all about movies. :-/

Damn. I didn't really need to watch the show.

God bless you, Heather and Jessica.

And finally, a fellow Minnesotan to help Goats cheer up. Get well soon. :)

I just sneezed so hard I think I pulled something.

My week of too little sleep and too much paper stress, on top of six weeks of show craziness, finally caught up with me. I have a cold, and once again, am not getting enough sleep to kick it. Today was a long, long day.

But back to the weekend. I had the worst cramps of my life (TMI, but there it is) on Friday night, I thought I was going to pass out or throw up. But I handed out Junior Show programs until we ran out before beating a hasty retreat up to the balcony. Friday's Junior Show kicked ass -- the crowd was just big enough, with the right energy, to make it better than Thursday, when it was a little too quiet. Saturday, it all went to pot (more specifically, to drink) when the seniors came. Senior Night: Sort of A Nice Idea, But Not Really A Good One. That was the night the show ran THREE HOURS. (Normal run time was just over two -- more than enough, even in top form.)

Saturday night was also the night of entirely too much wine. I'll leave it at that.

Sunday morning, I woke up far earlier than expected, but managed to waste the time quite efficiently by watching part II of Angels in America. HUGE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] auntyem and her fabulous collection of Vietnamese bootleg DVDs -- this one's been on my list for ages, and now I'm peeved it took me so long to get to it. First off, it's beautifully shot -- especially for a TV miniseries. (Yes, I know, "it's not TV, it's HBO" -- gorgeous TV is still TV.) AiA has the same basic palette and really rich greys as Closer. (And IMDb says the cinematographer is signed on to the film version of Rent -- yay!) Mike Nichols is my new god: the man gets the most amazing performances out of everybody, whether they're acknowledged greats like Pacino or oft-ridiculed ingenues like Portman (I was disappointed by her Oscar loss, I'll admit it).

Still, I need to watch the whole thing again. I'm still basking in the wonderfulness of it; on a repeated viewing, I'm sure I can come up with some criticisms. One more thing I really liked was Tony Kushner's keeping a lot of the theatrical, stagey conventions of the dialogue. At the end of part II, characters break the fourth wall rather a lot -- but it works. The production as a whole really kept to its theatrical roots in some areas (in others, less so -- but there are some things that can simply be done better on a screen than on a stage). I loved that they kept the double- and triple-casting, and the combination of stage and screen vets, and well-knowns and (relative) unknowns.

Also, Patrick Wilson? Love. ...Er. Preferably sans pageboy.

Is it Mike Nichols who's directing GoF?

It's Mike Newell, of Four Weddings and a Funeral fame, who's doing GoF.

Mike Nichols also did The Graduate. And Spamalot. <3
