I'm really just not in Tom Stoppard mode today (which is a problem, 'tis true), so I'm doing a fabulous 21st b-day update instead. Because, hey, milestone and all that. (Plus I have energy now -- yay coffee and naps -- but clearly don't want to waste it on writing a paper.)

Birthday, Round 1: The day started off well, last Friday, but the evening turned into a bit of a bust. Kloss, Kristy and I enjoyed a most excellent birthday dinner at an Italian place in town (topping off my week of pasta meals with one that I didn't have to cook myself :) ). There was wine and it was happy.

Sadly, the big end-of-term party (conveniently held in the dining hall of Kristy's dorm) never really took off. The music, it was no good; the wine buzz, it was worn off. In the end, the partners-in-crime ended up running off to watch Daria and go to bed so's I could get up and get on a train. Considering the train/plane/taxi-ness I had to go through the next day, it was actually very wise of me to eschew the traditional 21st birthday, "get totally smashed" thing. And it made it funnier when Boston friends jfray and The Lovely Elizabeth decided to get drunk and watch I Heart Huckabee's that Saturday night. (Although it may also have been funny because I'd been up for nearly 20 hours at that point. But who's counting.)

Birthday highlight of Saturday was turning my phone on after a week of non-use to find a birthday message from The Roommate. It made me all warm and fuzzy and missing Bath again. :)

Anyway, it was a nice, low-key deal. Which brings us to last night, and Birthday, Round 2. bannagoats and rarararachie organized a little something chez Rachel. Again, small, low-key get-together. First, we had to visit the current residents of our future home, who were throwing a 21st birthday shindig of their own. The birthday girls did a shot, Goats and I prowled all over their house and started mentally re-decorating (first to go: frat-house atmosphere), and we continued on our way. At Rachel's, Goats got to show off her mad apple martini-making skills, and Lyons provided the Easter candy. (Mmmm...Reese's peanut butter eggs....) It never got crowded, but I did get to see several people I'd been missing, and a pleasant time was had by all. Bonus: spooning with Erica when I went to (drunkenly) demand why she wasn't at my party. (She was sleeping. Honestly, you people.)

Right. And then, we went to Woodbridges. "We" at this point constituted Goats, myself, and two people I'd never met until that night -- but they're cool, and we bonded, so hooray. One drink each at Woodbridges led to further discussion of decorating plans (get ready, Kristy, for our celebrity chore-chart; Anna's got dibs on naked Jack Nicholson, I've got Boy from Oz Hugh Jackman, and you...still have lots of options and the opportunity to sort through the man-wall archives to choose your own), future dating opportunities (between us, we've had .5 relationships in college!), and a "Who's more butch?" debate with our new friends. <3 Mt. Holyoke. A couple of hours and a lot of obnoxiousness in Pearsons sun room later, it was 3 am and waaaay past time to go to bed.

And that's why I accomplished nothing today. On the up-side, I get to see my mommy tomorrow, AND we're having sushi. Hooray!
