[livejournal.com profile] eccentric_hat and I moved into our new apartment Saturday afternoon. Dad drove me and about half of my things down from Fairfield, and then helped us haul everything up to the fourth floor apartment. (That's love.) We did a grocery run, bought a shower curtain, copied keys, and had mattresses delivered. It's way exciting to have my own bed again -- not only my very own place to sleep, but a nobody-else-has-slept-in-it-ever bed.

For the time being, our only other real furniture consists of two tall folding chairs from Ikea. We cleverly stacked two big plastic Rubbermaid tubs to make a "table". I won't lie: it's pretty damn classy. Eventually, there will be a rug and a futon and a real table and chairs.

Obviously, out of that list of necessary furniture the futon will be the most important, and likely the very next purchase. Forget having a place to eat -- we need a place for visitors to stay. :)

I got this 'how to live in NYC on a dancer's salary' self help book for high school graduation. It suggested things like: you don't need a bed, just a mattress on the floor and milk crates are excellent chairs/bookcases/tables. But you have actual chairs! That's impressive. yay apartment!

The mattress is definitely on the floor -- although I went ahead and sprang for the box spring, too. A real table is pretty low on my list of priorities, considering the remarkable versatility and usefulness of the big plastic tubs: two make a tall table, one is a good coffee/end table, turn an empty one upside down and it's even a decent chair...so many possibilities!

I've been living in my apartment for 4 months. i have a bed (a futon on the floor), a futon couch, and a table. no chairs (overrated). :)

Chairs *are* totally overrated if you already have the couch. When there's no carpet, and nothing else in the room to sit on...then they get a little more important. ;)

hi! I had been lurking for probably about an hour before you friended me back (; So, not very long/stalkerish. I kept reading eccentric_hat's blog and wondering "I wonder who e_clare is" and then saw on olivia_circe's blog that darkest_light had just friended you and expressed wonderment, using your real name, that you hadn't been friended by her before, and I also expressed wonderment, to myself, that it had taken me so long to unravel the mystery. There seems to be a whole LJ circle of MHC English majors out there. Which, uh, I guess makes sense.

Congratulations on the new apartment!! Here's a classy window treatment tip, courtesy of Buffalo: clear plastic film taped over your windows really cuts on the heating bill!! In addition to looking totally, totally classy.
