Apparently, knitting was the hobby that I most desperately wanted but never knew it until now. I've spent far too much of my time the past few days knitting up a storm, watching movies, and going to bed far too late at night.

In fact, I've knitted all the way through
  • My Best Friend's Wedding (as previously mentioned)
  • The Devil Wears Prada (better than expected)
  • Desk Set (classic Hepburn/Tracy: she's a librarian, he's the computer engineer who's making her job obsolete)
  • "Studio 360," featuring interviews w/ Tom Stoppard, Isabelle Allende & Darren Aronofsky
  • "This American Life," about reruns in everyday life
  • Bleak House - all 15 hour-long episodes of the Gillian Anderson-starring BBC series (highly recommended)

  • Other projects:
  • dropped computer off for repairs
  • gradually writing and sending New Year's cards
  • tentatively planning for Columbus visits, including New Year's Eve activities
  • baking
  • sleeping
  • reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Christmas present!) and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories
  • first haircut since August, which required a 40-minute wait (sigh)

  • I'm ready to spend time with people who aren't family, thanks.

Sounds like you've been rather productive this holiday season; is it catching? What do you think of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell? I'm reading it myself, and any book about Northern English magicians has charms to soothe the savage Megan :).

    Happy New Year, li'l sister!

It's funny -- this is first holiday break in four years that hasn't involved putting in lots of hours at the movie theater, so I'm feeling quite un-productive. Knitting and movie-watching is a much more fun kind of productivity. :)

I'm not far enough into the book yet to really have an opinion, but I'm a little in love with the scene in the York cathedral. Further developments to come! Happy New Year!

I tried reading Jonathan Stange and Mr. Norrell. I was so determined to read it that I lugged the huge book in my backpack around Europe. And then completely gave up when I finally got back to the States. I couldn't get past the first 200 pages.

I'm jealous of your break, since I'm putting in way more hours than normal at the coffee shop. Happy Holidays!
