A MOUSE A MOUSE A MOUSE A MOUSE

there's a MOUSE in my closet ohmygod

am really, truly sleeping on the couch tonight. the mouse is shut inside the closet with a glue trap (i know, but it's what we have) and all known exits blocked.

you guys, i can hear it squeaking through the door.

*flails*

whatdoido??

(when i turned on the light i saw it, a little brown blur, scurry from behind my suitcase, across my dirty laundry pile, and into the closet. it took a moment to process, so i was quietly freaking out. i'm sorry i didn't wake you up, roommate, but i don't know what good it would do. hopefully i catch you before you check LJ in the morning...)

First: my sympathies. I really don't know what I would do about a mouse. Except google "how do I get rid of a mouse wtf." Have you tried that?

I googled for much of yesterday afternoon, freaking myself out to a ridiculous degree (learning way too much about the rapid reproduction cycle of mice, among other things -- eep). I also learned about these traps for squeamish folks (http://www.victorpest.com/mouse_instructions.htm#Quick%20Set:) who don't want to handle dead, bloody mouse corpses. I'm going to look for them this afternoon, since calling the landlord only yielded more sticky glue traps.

well, look on the bright side...at least it is not in your kitchen, eating your food.

is there food in the trap in your closet? have you had to call scott yet?

Good thing all our food's up high, yes. Although I'm re-thinking our habit of eating on the sofa.... There's peanut butter on the trap in my closet, but it hasn't been effective yet. I've also heard good things about bacon grease.

I'm going to get different traps today, so hopefully I won't have to call Scott at all. (And I love that you remembered that's who I'd call -- not because he would necessarily be helpful, but because Bridget would order him to come over, and I can't see any of the other boys we know doing even that. *g*)

Have-a-heart traps are my recommendation. Although, my mom is known for catching moles in her hands in our pantry.

Where do you let the mouse go in a city?

EXACTLY. In general, I'm all for the "have a heart" traps...but i seriously don't know where this mouse would get released if we caught it. as awful as it is, i'd rather know it was good and dead. :(
