Three things that made my day

Happy-Go-Lucky screening and Q&A with Mike Leigh
Happy-Go-Lucky (trailer here), the new film from Mr. British Indie Cinema, Mike Leigh, is simply fantastic: 30-year-old primary school teacher called Poppy Cross, who has a relentlessly positive outlook on life. Not in a scary or obnoxious way, but in more of an "I'm going to deliberately look for the silver lining, and figure out how to conjure one up if it's not there" sort of way. In the Q&A afterward, Leigh was delightfully crotchety and dismissive of David Edelstein's inane questions, but lovely and polite and generous in answering the audience's.

Billy Corgan and Gerard Way at some event in L.A.; posted on Jezebel this afternoon
I guess this is where I finally cop to my gradual fall into the madness of bandom. Due largely to the influence of
olivia_circe and her persuasive picspamming and linking powers, plus the fact that there are some holycrapAMAZING writers in the fandom, these fics are surpassed only by The Office in the number of links saved to my del.icio.us.

newredshoes: I'm pretty sure you would really enjoy
bexless's AU I Have Been All Things Unholy, in that it's kind of like a Supernatural or X-Files casefile story wherein Weird Shit Happens until the skeptics and believers team up to stop it. (...actually, I think I just identified for myself why I love this story so much: Frank and Priest!Gerard have the same Scully/Mulder relationship dynamic. This explains a lot.)
And this is also where I come out to the few RL friends who don't know that I read fanfiction. Hi, guys. Um. I plan, when I do infrequently post, to talk a lot more about fandom stuff and whatever books I happen to be reading at the moment than about real life, so...consider yourselves warned?
3. LJ's auto-save feature
My iBook's battery is on the fritz and no longer holds a charge for longer 20 minutes, at which point it shuts itself down with no warning and I have to restart. This happened twice in the course of composing this entry. Happily, LJ's autosave feature enabled me to pick up more or less where I left off each time, instead of just giving up altogether.

Date: 2008-10-20 05:13 am (UTC)Is it me or does Gerard Way look like goth Harry Potter? (No, it is not just me. he totally looks like goth Harry Potter. It's the tie.)
my macbook is also bad about holding a charge. Is this a thing about older laptops or is it a think with mac notebooks? (not that my macbook is old - I got it fall 06... but I guess that is getting on old in computer years, now isn't it?)

I think the battery life is an older laptop thing, recalling from my old Dell notebook, but I'm definitely peeved at how quickly the battery's deteriorated on my spring '05 iBook. At the end of August, I could still make it all the way down to 8%. Now it craps out at 82%. :(
