obligatory weekly film review

Finally saw Girl With A Pearl Earring last night. It was beautifully, beautifully shot--but I think it's the kind of story that doesn't entirely work cinematically. Griet says so little, and Scarlett Johansson does an excellent job w/ the non-verbal acting, but it felt like there was a missing layer.
