  1. Press release about the interns' exhibit at the Big-Ass Library. I saved this link ages ago, but kept forgetting to post it.
  2. Any time I visit Becky P., no matter the time of year, length of time since our last visit, or even the country we're in, it's always wonderfully predictable: we walk around the neighborhood, catch up on all the hometown gossip, drink tea and/or coffee at a cafe, talk about school and family, and cook. And talk some more about utterly nonsensical things. Labor Day weekend in Lexington was no exception to this pattern.
  3. A visit with Silver Street is usually the same as above -- the variation this time was having Kristy and Biz on my turf, as it were, in Louisville: they shop at Kroger, play cornhole at theater-sponsored barbecues, and said barbecues are held less than 20 minutes away in Indiana. Welcome to the Midwest, ladies. So sorry I'm leaving just as you get here.
  4. "Stoppard Gone Wilde" has finally been converted to PDF form -- I know a few of you wanted a copy, and your names are on a list...somewhere...so remind me, and I'll distribute it via email. I had a small crisis the other day when I realized that this task marked the true end of my college career, and that I wasn't ready to be a grown-up person yet. However, I've since grown more comfortable with the idea.

In more recent news, I made it to Connecticut safe and sound, losing my way relatively few times and successfully navigating my way out of New York City and back onto the interstate. Fun moments on the drive included:
  • Politics in southern Ohio: spotting two giant pro-Strickland yard signs, and zero pro-Blackwell-for-Governor signs.
  • "Hi, Dad? I know you said that I would just reconnect with I-95, but I don't think I'm supposed to be going back into Pennsylvania..."
  • Singing along to the iPod really, really loudly -- not something one can really do on public transportation.
  • Gas prices steadily rose as I moved East...until I hit New Jersey, where I found gas inexplicably 10 cents cheaper than in Maryland.
  • Subsisting only on coffee for all of Monday -- this gave me the strength and force of will to drive like a maniac through New York and southern Connecticut.
  • "Dad? I shouldn't be in the Bronx, right?"
Today I managed to unpack almost everything seeing as I don't have any desk drawers, the stuff I generally file in the junk drawer is proving difficult to place), and finish a book. I can mooch internet access from the neighbors, I still have two more books, and I should really be getting to bed.

By following my sketchy directions and a map with too little detail, and ignoring common sense: once over the Tappan Zee Bridge, I stayed on 87 rather following 287 -> 84, because it was hard to tell which was right on the map. I'm smart -- S-M-R-T.

Anyway it all worked out, and the rental car was even returned early.

haha gas is cheap in new jersey b/c we don't pump our own and don't have to make up for the billions of dollars lost by people who drive off without paying! (i could be making that up...i love my state)

glad you made it safe and sound, and hopefully I'll talk to you soon. Peace! (also, yay for the simpsons reference in your comments lol)
